On Wednesday, December 14, Roosevelt hosted the third annual Joan H. Tisch Public Health Forum, “The Role of Public Policy as a Health Improvement Tool” on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 12:00 pm. The luncheon featured:
Richard E. Besser, Chief Health and Medical Editor, ABC News and former Acting Director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention
James S. Marks, Senior Vice President and Director, Health Group, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and former Assistant Surgeon General
Bruce C. Vladeck, Senior Advisor, Nexera, Inc., and former President, United Hospital Fund of New York
With moderator:
Georges C. Benjamin , Joan H. Tisch Distinguished Fellow in Public Health at Hunter College and Executive Director of the American Public Health Association
This lunchtime discussion explored the wide-ranging impact of New York City's significant health policy initiatives - including food environment policies (such as the trans-fat ban and calorie count restaurant displays), increased bicycle paths, increasingly aggressive anti-smoking policies, improved access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and a novel registry to track diabetes control. The program examined the potential impact of these and other public policies on improving health locally and across the nation, as well as the broader return on investment.
The Joan H. Tisch Public Health Forum is funded by a grant from The Steve Tisch Foundation, The Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Foundation and the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund. To learn more about the Joan H. Tisch Legacy Project, please click here.
